Harry Redknapp says whether Leeds can survive in the Premier League, he got it right once before
Leeds United are already going to work in the transfer market in their attempts to survive in the Premier League next season.
In two previous attempts with Norwich City, Leeds boss Daniel Farke failed to stay in the English top flight, a difficult challenge for any promoted side these days.
All of Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton went straight back down last season, a fate that Leeds, Burnley and Sunderland will all be looking to avoid next term.
Of course, Leeds have already announced the signing of Lukas Nmecha from Wolfsburg on a free transfer, a deal that should be followed by Jaka Bijol from Udinese.
Leeds have agreed a £18.7m deal for Bijol, and it’s clear that the 49ers are approaching the summer window with ambition.
Harry Redknapp gives his Leeds relegation verdict
That being said, former Premier League manager Harry Redknapp has now given his thoughts on whether Leeds can avoid the drop next season.
Redknapp was speaking to Sun Sport, asked to give his ‘crazy prediction’ for next season.
And whilst Redknapp correctly tipped Leeds to get relegated in 2023, he thought they could survive on this occasion.
Redknapp simply said: “I think Leeds to stay up, I think they’ll buck the trend, and I think there’s every chance of Ipswich coming back up.”
As mentioned, no promoted side even came close to staying up last term, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester ended up finishing in 18th, but even they were 13 points adrift from Tottenham Hotspur one spot ahead.
Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
16 | 38 | 12 | 6 | 20 | 54 | 69 | -15 | 42 | |

20 | 38 | 2 | 6 | 30 | 26 | 86 | -60 | 12 |
It’s not an easy task by any means, but Redknapp was clearly buoyed by Leeds’ efforts in the Championship.
Leeds think they’ve found their new Georginio Rutter
That being said, chief correspondent Graeme Bailey recently spoke to TBR Football and offered his insight into how Nmecha might settle at Leeds next season.
Bailey had been told that the 26-year-old was being seen as somewhat similar to Georginio Rutter who was sold to Brighton & Hove Albion in 2024.

He said: “He’s a very good prospect. You know obviously they’re aware of him from his time at Man City.
“They see him as from what I’m told as someone a bit like a Rutter who they lost, someone like him with a very high ceiling who can play in many positions you
“Do they see him as a central striker? Potentially, but also someone who can come during a game. He’s played at a very high level before, they just see him as someone who improves the whole squad.”
