Harry Redknapp has advice for Ryan Mason on how to treat Tottenham player

Harry Redknapp has given some advice to Ryan Mason on how to get the best out of Tottenham Hotspur attacker Gareth Bale as quoted by the – ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.

Bale, 31, was handed a start on Wednesday night as interim manager Mason guided his side to a late 2-1 win over Southampton – with the Wales captain scoring his side’s equaliser, his 11th of the season for the North London club.

It was only his seventh Premier League start of the season, but it is was a big sign of things to come from Mason. Pundits have since stated that they expect the Welshman to start on Sunday against Manchester City at Wembley.

Ex-Tottenham boss Redknapp has some advice for Mason when it comes to Bale, stating that the Welshman needs plenty of confidence in his ability to in order to bring his best form out – saying he needs to feel he is important.

“If he’s made to feel important we’ll see the best of him between now and the end of the season. He could do great for the rest of the year,” Redknapp said. “He’s not the most confident boy even though he’s been a world-class player.

“I used to tell the team ‘give the ball to Gareth, he’ll murder them’. He responds to that. He wasn’t in Jose’s plans. But against Southampton he looked a different boy, he looked like the Gareth that I know. He was fantastic.”

TBR’s view – Can Mason do what Mourinho failed to do?

Mourinho could not get the best out of Bale. You do not feel that Mourinho would have been sympathetic, understanding or caring towards Bale – which Redknapp states is needed to get the best out of the Madrid loanee.

Mason seems a softer, more affectionate character and he played alongside Bale – though he was on the fringes when Bale was in his prime at Spurs. They know eachother, and it could just bring the best out of the stuttering Bale.
