Harry McKirdy’s loan spell at Newport County is his last chance to save Aston Villa career
Aston Villa youngster Harry McKirdy completed a deadline day move to Newport County. He joins the League Two side on loan until the end of the season.
McKirdy has been out injured for a while but he is nearing a return to action.
And when he is fully fit again, McKirdy will be in contention for games at Newport, rather than Aston Villa’s youth team.
This is the 21-year-old’s third loan stint away from Villa Park, having previously played for Stevenage and Crewe Alexandra.
McKirdy will be hoping to build on his current tally of five goals in 29 senior matches across his previous two loan spells.

And the young forward needs to make this loan spell count because his time as an Aston Villa player could be running out if he fails to impress.
McKirdy last signed a contract in October 2017, extending his deal until summer 2019, .
By the time the versatile attacker returns to the West Midlands, he will be 22 and out of contract. Unless he does something special at Newport, Aston Villa are unlikely to extend his deal.
McKirdy needs to bounce back from his injury and prove to Dean Smith that he is worth keeping around. But if his spell at Newport is unsuccessful, he may be looking for a new club in the summer transfer window.
