Harry Kane praises ‘fantastic’ Jose Mourinho following sacking from Tottenham

Harry Kane has praised former Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho for helping the striker evolve his game and for playing him in a role that suited the England captain’s style of play.

, the 27-year-old Spurs striker was full of positive words for the Portuguese manager, who was last week sacked by the club ahead of their League Cup final against Manchester City, which the north London side lost 1-0.

Kane was impressive under Mourinho’s management, with the England skipper scoring 45 goals in 62 appearances with the former Chelsea manager in charge, with the attacker assisting an impressive 17 goals during that time as well, 15 of which have come this season, and the centre forward was thankful for how the 58-year-old coach helped develop his game.

The Tottenham number #10 said when asked about Mourinho’s time at Tottenham: “He’s a fantastic manager. He’s managed the biggest players at the biggest clubs in the world, so he came in with a real understanding of what he wanted.”

Kane later added: “We just had a good relationship, I feel like my game’s been evolving other the last three, four years anyway, and it was a good matchup, and it was a shame we couldn’t go on to do better things or win any trophies, but I’ll take the experience I had with him for the rest of my career.”

TBR View: Kane benefitted hugely from Mourinho’s style of management

Mourinho’s tenure at Tottenham will be remembered with disdain by the majority of Spurs fans in the future, but for what the manager did to Kane, it’s hard to ignore just how much the former Manchester United boss improved the England captain’s overall game.

This season has seen Kane form an unbelievable partnership with Heung-min Son, with the duo working together almost telepathically given the number of goals the two Tottenham stars have assisted for one another, and the English attacker’s ability to play deeper on the pitch will likely be beneficial to both club and country in the future.
