He said: “It was tough, you know, it was very physical. I mean, I dealt with it in the Champions League, we played teams that are very physical, and I’m not gonna say I’m used to it because the Premier League is a different beast, but I felt good out there. I mean, I felt quick, I felt fit, I felt ready to go.”

The 21-year-old joined from Salzburg earlier in the window for a fee of £22 million () and feels Gerrard’s Villa were a difficult team to deal with.

He added: “I think the way Villa played was hard because they had a lot of guys coming back to the ball they want to combine and they want to do things like that, so it was a good first game for me. I enjoyed it. And I thought the group of guys gelled well.”

The attacking midfielder is one of six new signings to come into Leeds this summer and is clearly relishing the prospect of playing Premier League football. All of Leeds’ new players are yet to play a game in the league so they’ll have to adjust quickly.

As for Villa, the club have also been busy this summer as they’ve added five new players to their squad.

Gerrard’s side are yet to lose in pre-season so far and it’s clear they’ve made an impression on the new Leeds United man. The Villains look to be in great shape going into the new season.
