‘You’d be lucky to get more than £15m’: Liverpool legend claims Reds will make huge loss on ‘world-class’ ace

Dietmar Hamann has claimed that Liverpool would make a big loss if they sold Naby Keita this summer.

The Merseysiders are looking to sell a raft of players to raise funds for much needed signings this summer.

Keita was linked with a move to Atletico Madrid following his omission from the last five Premier League games of last season.

Liverpool parted with £53m to sign the midfielder just three years ago from Red Bull Leipzig. However, injury problems and inconsistencies have hampered the ace since his arrival at Anfield.

It seems as though he could be headed for the exit door, a move the Liverpool legend believes could hit his former club hard.

When speaking about Keita, : “It’s been three years now and you have to say he’s struggled to make his mark.”

“I just don’t really see where he fits into this Liverpool team going forward. You’d be lucky to get more than £15 million for him. Sometimes you just have to accept something hasn’t worked out and move on.”

TBR View: Hamann comments on Keita loss warns of need for smarter business for Liverpool

Of all their transfer since the arrival of Jurgen Klopp, Keita has been their third-most-expensive.

The failure to settle down and perform consistently has sent a warning sign to the German over future transfers. Big-money moves require a lot of thinking before they are undertaken.

In the case of Allison and Virgil van Dijk, they helped change the dynamic of the entire team. Their arrivals was a sign of the club’s intent to become winners of the Premier League.

You’d have hoped Keita would turn out similarly, however, that has failed to be the case.

Hamann is right about the loss Liverpool face is they choose to sell Keita, but, that’s the reality.

Keeping him would be a far bigger loss as he fails to add any sort of quality on the pitch.

Accepting the loss in money and signing a new midfielder should be the key this summer.

And after the exit of Gini Wijnaldum, there may have to be a further recruitment in the heart of the pitch.
