Halliday says Rangers should consider selling Gerrard mainstay this summer

that this summer represents the best summer for Rangers to cash in on Alfredo Morelos, since he joined. Morelos has been linked with the exit door in the last couple of seasons. Halliday says Rangers are better-positioned to sell Morelos than they have ever been.

Morelos, 25, was excellent once again last season – producing a huge 30 goals involvements in 44 games for Rangers. But having represented Colombia at Copa America, he is yet to return to Ibrox ahead of Saturday’s opener against Livingston.

The Gers boss says Morelos will return to training next week. It means he will miss Saturday’s match and next week’s Champions League qualifier against Malmo. Halliday reckons Rangers are in a strong position, if Morelos leaves.

“We’ve speculated every year for the last three years about Alfredo Morelos leaving,” Halliday said. “Since joining Rangers, now out of any time, Rangers would be more settled with the players they have got – if he leaves. They’ve got [Fashion] Sakala, [Kemar] Roofe, [Cedric] Itten. They have replacements.

“Nobody wants to play against this Sakala with how athletic he is. If there was a time to cash in on Alfredo Morelos, they’ve got someone there that can step in if needs be,”

Should Rangers cash in on Morelos – as Halliday suggests?

He has a point. Roofe outscored Morelos last season in eight less games, with 18 goals. Itten has been excellent in pre-season, scoring three times. His winner against Real Madrid was a finish of a man in confidence, swivelling and netting into the bottom corner. Sakala looks a player.

On a free, Rangers have got themselves a player that can play out wide, as a 10 or up front. Bags of pace, Sakala scored 16 for Oostende in Belgium last season. He also netted against Madrid. If Rangers receive an offer of £15million for Morelos, then surely it is a good time to cash in.
