Haller would be expensive Newcastle gamble who would need to hit ground running
It is no secret and hasn’t been quite some time that Newcastle United need goals and Mike Ashley is unwilling to spend big in order to get them.
So many Magpies will likely take recent to Frankfurt hitman Sebastien Haller with a pinch of salt. Ashley has been reluctant to shell out in the past so it’s perhaps unlikely he will break that habit to land the Frenchman who has eight goals and seven assists so far this season.
But imagine for a second that he has a personality transplant, realising that Newcastle’s plight is dire enough to hand Rafa Benitez the big-money hitman he so desperately needs in order to transform the frontline of his disciplined but limited side.

It would be a huge gamble if Haller was the man Ashley relied upon to save Newcastle’s season; he would need to hit the ground running with his first club in English football and translating the form he is showing in the Bundesliga to the Premier League is easier said than done.
There is no guarantee it would pay off; how many times have we seen a hotly-tipped and expensive striker come to England and fail?
Overdue investment would be welcome but if Newcastle put all their eggs in Haller’s basket, they could find themselves disappointed.
