“Neco is probably four or five games short of being 100% but I thought he was terrific…

“He was magnificent. I was excited about him last season when I shadowed (former u-18 boss) Neil Critchley. He was giving a couple of years away in that team.

“Now I am excited to have him back. He deserves a lot of praise for that performance.”

Such form and resilience even earned him special praise from club legend Steven Gerrard.

Williams is now back and firing for club and country. Considering the impact Trent Alexander-Arnold has had in such a short space of time the teenager will surely be thinking of a potential future in the Liverpool first-team.

He has the backing of Gerrard and Liverpool fans should keep tabs on the youngster.
