Why Guglielmo Vicario went mad at Lucas Bergvall in stoppage time as Tottenham draw with Leicester
It was certainly a game of two halves for Tottenham Hotspur as they began their new season under Ange Postecoglou against Leicester City.
Spurs dominated the first half and pundit Gary Neville was amazed by Pedro Porro’s positioning for his Tottenham goal, another ode to Postecoglou’s daring system.
But as the game grew older and Jamie Vardy found an equaliser against the run of play, Spurs then struggled to mount any sort of sustained pressure, even if Richarlison could have won the game late on.
Although he didn’t score the goal he wanted, Dominic Solanke impressed, fitting seamlessly into Postecoglou’s front three, a debut that the 26-year-old will already be looking forward to building upon against Everton.
That being said, Solanke wasn’t the only Tottenham player making their full debut at the King Power, both Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall also came off the bench in the second half.
The pair replaced Rodrigo Bentancur in midfield, who had to leave the pitch with a worrying head injury.
Fortunately, Tottenham’s team doctor gave a reassuring update on Bentancur’s condition shortly after he went down the tunnel for treatment.
Guglielmo Vicario takes no prisoners during Lucas Bergvall’s Tottenham debut
Although Bergvall was impressive on the ball for most of his first minutes in a Spurs shirt, Guglielmo Vicario took umbrage with one piece of play by the young Swede.
Bergvall lost the ball in a dangerous position in his defensive third in the 91st minute of the game, which in turn forced Vicario into a save.

Once he had pushed the ball clear, the Italian then leap up to let Bergvall know exactly how he felt about the midfielder’s lapse in judgement, perhaps feeling as if the should have just cleared the ball.
Interestingly, Alan Smith, who was covering the game for , commented on the situation as it was unfolding.
Smith thought Vicario’s scolding of Bergvall was a bit over the top – an opinion that may be shared by a few Tottenham fans.
Smith simply said: “I’m not sure he [Bergvall] deserved that much of a rollocking.”
Of course, Vicario will simply say that he was maintaining standards, ensuring that no Tottenham player gets a free ride, whether they are young or old.
But on the whole, it was a very promising first outing for Bergvall, who has coped admirably with a big step up in quality from the Allsvenskan.
