Greg Docherty has joked in an that he hopes to follow in the footsteps of Rangers veteran Steven Davis and eventually return to Ibrox at the age of 34, as he continues to impress at Hull City.
Docherty, 24, left Rangers on a permanent basis in the summer for just £350,000 (Athletic) to join Hull – having failed to break into the Gers side on a regular basis. He only managed to play 19 times for the Gers.
Instead, he went on loan to Shrewsbury during 2018-19 in which he had a hand in 21 goals during 50 appearances, while also going on loan to Hibernian during the second half of last season – scoring three in eight games.
Now, Docherty is impressing at Hull after joining on a permanent, starting 17 of Hull’s 19 league games. He jokes that in 10 years time at 34, he hopes to follow in Davis’ footsteps and return to Rangers.
“I always look at guys like Davo (Steven Davis). He’s done his career right so, hopefully, I can go back when I’m 34,” Docherty said when asked about Rangers,

TBR’s view – Should Rangers look at Docherty earlier?
Docherty is a top midfielder and while many feel he should have got more of a chance at Rangers, he was unlikely to find the likes of Davis, Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara ahead of him in the pecking order.
So, what does Docherty need to do to earn a Rangers return? Certainly, he needs to gain promotion with Hull and impress in the Championship. Still at an early stage in his career, he needs to get into the Scotland side, too.
But he has all the traits necessary that could get him back to Ibrox. Should they consider him before 34? Potentially.
