Greek media deliver verdict on Liverpool star Konstantinos Tsimikas after laying on two assists

It was a brilliant night for Greece in the Euro 2024 play-offs as Gus Poyet’s side completely blew Kazakhstan away to win 5-0 and Liverpool defender Konstantinos Tsimikas was front and centre.

The 27-year-old has been on the sidelines for much of the campaign again this season, as he continues to play second fiddle to Andy Robertson. He has started just 16 games of Liverpool’s 45-game season.

That was enough to continue to be selected by Poyet for Greece’s crucial fixture last night. Greece were expected to beat Kazakhstan but not many will have predicted the margin by which they did, a 5-0 win.

Tsimikas was superb last night. Alongside the likes of West Ham’s Dinos Mavropanos, Sheffield United’s George Baldock and Forest’s Odysseas Vlachodimos Tsimikas proved integral to a huge 5-0 victory.

Greek media praised Liverpool’s Konstantinos Tsimikas last night

Indeed, Tsimikas laid on a brilliant cross for Greece’s fourth, which was headed in by Dimitros Kourbelis. A perfectly-worked short corner that saw Tsimikas curl an in-swinging cross into the Greece’s no.6.

Then, the left-back who Curtis Jones claims has the best left foot at Anfield planted another corner right into the mix, which was headed into his own net for Greece’s fifth, by Kazakhstan’s Erkin Tapalov.

Greek outlet delivered a player ratings piece after the game. Tsimikas was handed a rating of 8/10 for his performance in the 5-0 win with SDNA praising his efforts at both ends of the pitch for Greece.

“Very good match from the Liverpool ace. Defensively stable, very good creatively, of course assisting in Kourbelis4-0. The 5-0, made with an own goal by the Kazakhs, also starts from his own corner./p>

Will Tsimikas remain at Liverpool at the end of the season?

With Jurgen Klopp leaving at the end of the season, Tsimikas might have played his last game under the German boss or at least, his last start. 10 League games, and in the last eight of the Europa League.

You would imagine that Klopp will want to start Tsimikas in every game between now and the end of the current campaign. Joe Gomez is also fit. Atalanta is a tough test in the last eight of the Europa League.

The Reds will surely play Robertson for what could be another 15 games. If Robertson then does get an injury, maybe Tsimikas starts again but it looks as if Tsimikas might have started his last Reds game.

Klopp says he is capable of doing “beautiful things/a>, and on Thursday night he did so. Whether he has a future at Liverpool come the summer, with Klopp going, remains to be seen. There will be interest.
