‘Great guy’, ‘good energy’: Everton star raves about £50k-a-week Wolves ace

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has waxed lyrical about Wolves defender Conor Coady after the two starred for England in midweek.

The Toffees ace marked his Three Lions debut with the opener against Wales in Thursday’s 3-0 friendly win at Wembley.

Calvert-Lewin rose to head home his 10th of the season in the 26th minute of the game following a great delivery from Jack Grealish.

Coady then grabbed his first international goal when he turned in Kieran Trippier’s free kick in the 53rd minute.

Danny Ings wrapped up the scoring with a superb overhead kick shortly after the hour mark, the result a confidence boost for England ahead of the Nations League meeting with Belgium.

Calvert-Lewin was pleased with Coady – the two both at Sheffield United in 2013-14 – breaking his scoring drought and praised his talents and attitude.

“I was talking to Conor before the game and he was telling me that he’d not scored for ages,” Calvert-Lewin told .

“I told him we’d get a goal from a set-piece today. I was going to go to the back post but I went front and he ended up putting it in. I was over the moon for him, I know him from when he was on-loan at Sheffield United and I was a young boy training with the first team.

“He’s a great guy and he’s a leader as well. I’m up the other end of the pitch from him and you can hear him talking throughout the game. It makes a massive difference to the lads in front of him and gives off that good energy, and obviously that helps when you go into the game.”

Coady, the Wolves captain and a club legend closing in on 250 competitive appearances, definitely had a night to remember with his goal – a just reward for all the hard work the ace has put in over the years.

Likewise, Calvert-Lewin has enjoyed a wonderful start to the season with a Ronaldo-esque goal tally which has helped Everton to the top of the Premier League table and the League Cup quarter-finals.

It’s great to see both players also shining on the international stage and hopefully we’ll be seeing plenty more of them over the coming year for club and country.
