‘Great’… 18-year-old Tottenham youngster seriously impresses the media in FA Cup last night

Tottenham Hotspur loanee Ashley Phillips put in yet another impressive display for Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup last night.

The 18-year-old was handed his fifth start for Argyle against Leeds United on Tuesday evening and grabbed an assist. 

Ashley Phillips set up Brendan Galloway in the 79th minute to cancel out Leeds’ opener and send the fourth-round replay to extra time.

Leeds went on to score three goals in extra time and secure a 4-1 win. But Phillips has earned praise from the media following another eye-catching display.

handed Phillips a seven out of 10 rating for his display against Leeds last night. The outlet praised the youngster and claimed it’s ‘easy to forget’ that he is just 18 years of age. 

“Has really slotted in well to the role on the right of Argyle’s defensive trio under Ian Foster,” they wrote.

“It is easy to forget at times that the loan signing from Tottenham Hotspur is only aged 18, both in terms of his physical stature but his composure in the thick of the action.

“Came up with a great assist for Brendan Galloway’s Argyle equaliser.”

Phillips is making quite the impact at Argyle after joining on a loan deal from Spurs last month.

Just last week, the defender earned praise for an accomplished display against Swansea in the Championship.

Of course, Phillips only joined Tottenham last summer after making the switch from Blackburn Rovers. 

But after struggling for minutes in his first few months at Hotspur Way, a loan move came at an ideal time for the youngster.

Phillips has already racked up five starts for the Championship outfit and seems to be benefitting from regular first-team football. 

He will certainly be hoping to continue his impressive displays with the view of forcing his way into Ange Postecoglou’s plans next season.
