Gramem Souness wants more from Liverpool star who gets him on the edge of his seat

Former Liverpool star Graeme Souness has suggested to that he has been disappointed with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain since he arrived at Anfield from Arsenal.

The midfielder signed for Liverpool in 2017 making a move from the Emirates Stadium. In three years he has made 85 appearances, despite missing a season with a cruciate ligament injury.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has failed to hold down regular football under Jurgen Klopp, largely used when the boss opts to shuffle his pack.

Souness confesses he’s a fan of the England international but admits it’s time he stepped up considerably and made more of an impact on the team.

“I’m a big fan. He’s different to what you’d regard as the first three, the three who generally start who are all working, really aggressive types – Milner, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Fabinho. Whatever mix, they’re all solid.

“He’s more of a flair player, he gives them something different. When I think of him, he’s been there for three years, but he hasn’t really started to get going. That’s what I feel with him.

“I like him, I think he’s got great qualities but I still feel I’m waiting for him to put a run of games together. I want to see him running games and really showing what he can do. He’s a player who can get you on the edge of your seat.”

The fiery Scot played for Liverpool for six years and knows what it takes to make the grade at Anfield.

Some of his comments on Oxlade-Chamberlain are perhaps justified and regular football is something he must work towards.

Niggles have been too infrequent since his serious knee problem and a good pre-season will be needed by Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The £120,000-a-week star is a real asset to Liverpool and with new signings likely to be at a minimum in the summer, they could really do with the Ox firing on all cylinders.
