Graham Roberts says there are 3 players Tottenham shouldn’t have signed, including £25m man

Tottenham Hotspur legend Graham Roberts has criticised Spurs for three signings they’ve made in recent years.

The Tottenham icon believes the club “didn’t need” Ryan Sessegnon, Joe Rodon and Jack Clarke.

Sessegnon joined Spurs to much fanfare in the summer of 2019 for £25million.

The 21-year-old was one of England’s top youngsters of the time, having impressed for Fulham.

However, Sessegnon has struggled at Tottenham, with just 22 Spurs appearances under his belt.

The full-back did well on loan at Hoffenheim in 2020-21 but is yet to become a regular starter for Tottenham.

Likewise, Joe Rodon – who cost Spurs an initial £11million in October 2020 – remains a fringe player at N17.

To date, the Welshman has just 22 Tottenham first-team appearances under his belt.

And Clarke, who cost Spurs £10million in July 2019, has only played four times for Tottenham’s first team.

He is currently on loan at Sunderland – his fourth stint away from N17 while on their books.

The three players cost Spurs a reported £46million but have contributed little to the club’s cause.

And Roberts believes Tottenham made a mistake in bringing them to north London.

“You didn’t need to go out and buy Sessegnon, Rodon and Clarke, you don’t need to,” he wrote on .

You can’t really argue with what Roberts is saying.

Sessegnon, Rodon and Clarke are talented players, but they haven’t been right for Tottenham up to now.

Admittedly, Spurs have gone through a bit of a tumultuous time in recent years.

And then you had the suspension of football in 2020 which wouldn’t have been good for any young player’s development.

Now, things look a little more steady with Antonio Conte at the helm.

Next pre-season will shed more light on whether the Italian sees any use for Sessegnon, Rodon and Clarke.

If not, then he’s likely to move them on – but it remains to be seen whether Spurs can recoup their outlay.
