Graham Roberts picks three Tottenham players that get pass marks during NLD
to get pass marks from Sunday’s NLD loss to Arsenal – and Son Heung-min is not among them.
Spurs were humbled against their most-bitter of rivals with a 3-1 loss at The Emirates. It came after a first-half blitz from Mikel Arteta’s side.
Emile Smith-Rowe, Bukayo Saka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang all found the back of the net inside the first 45. Smith-Rowe was sensational in the 10.
Spurs did improve in the second 45 after a change of personnel from Nuno Espirito Santo – but it was too little, too late. Son scored a late consolation.
, Spurs legend Roberts picked three players he believed got pass marks – from a possible 14.
Two of those three included substitutes Oliver Skipp and Bryan Gil who looked good when coming on. Roberts also praised Hugo Lloris.
Roberts on NLD: Tottenham fans need to accept change of approach
Nuno is in the middle of a tricky dilemma. Does he adhere to fans, who want attacking, exciting football – or go more Jose Mourinho?
The quality of Tottenham’s defence means that he should probably go with the latter. But the pressure from fans to play attacking football is heavy.
On Sunday, he went with the fans – including Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele in an attacking line-up alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
It did not pay off, as Spurs left enormous gaps in midfield. It only improved when Skipp came on alongside Hojbjerg – behind Ndombele.
So, Spurs fans need to accept that either – Nuno plays like Mourinho and hit teams on the counter, or go attacking and get hit like they did at Arsenal.
