Graeme Souness rips into Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier
Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness did not hold back when it came to assessing the performance of Kieran Trippier against Liverpool on Sunday.
The Tottenham Hotspur defender started at Anfield and came away on the losing side as Jurgen Klopp’s team snatched a goal at the death to secure a 2-1 victory ().

Roberto Firmino had opened the scoring before Lucas Moura equalised in the second half. As the game seemed to be heading towards a draw, the Reds then scored via a Toby Alderweireld own goal after Mo Salah turned a cross goalwards.
It was a huge result for the hosts, who are back on top of the pile in the Premier League.
Tottenham’s defeat was their fourth in the last five in the league, and it was Trippier who bore the brunt of Souness’ criticisms.
Assessing Firmino’s goal, he said, : “He’s not a very good defender.

“He’s looking over his left shoulder saying ‘where are you Alderweireld’, but he shouldn’t have to do that. Just sprint and assume Alderweireld is going to be there.
“Trippier’s strength is going forward and delivering the ball that Robertson did, it’s not defending.”
TBR’s view
Trippier was not sparkling against Liverpool and his form this season was been a big worry for Tottenham.
His brilliant showing at the World Cup with England seems a long time ago now, and he hasn’t seemed like the same player for Spurs.

He has continually been exposed defensively, and that should alarm Tottenham.
It is certainly an area for Mauricio Pochettino to consider upgrading this summer, with Serge Aurier having not proven himself to be a dependable backup.
