Graeme Souness now shares who he thinks is better… Harry Kane or Alan Shearer
Graeme Souness has labelled Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer as England’s best-ever striker, over former Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane.
The Liverpool legend has been speaking to Simon Jordan on the latest episode of their and picked Alan Shearer over the former Spurs star.
Harry Kane left Ange Postecoglou’s side over the summer as he made the switch to Bayern Munich. The 30-year-old has made an instant impact in Munich, netting 26 times in 23 appearances.
But after leaving Tottenham and the Premier League behind, he did leave behind the opportunity to break Shearer’s long-standing goal record, for the time being at least.

Shearer netted a staggering 260 goals in England’s top flight during spells at Southampton, Blackburn Rovers and, of course, St James’ Park.
Kane managed 213 during his time at Spurs and was closing in on the Newcastle legend’s record.
There has been much debate over who’s the better striker and Graeme Souness believes that man is Shearer.
Souness says Shearer is the best English striker ever
Speaking on , the Scotsman delivered his verdict on Shearer and Kane.
“For me, you want someone who has a bit of everything,” Souness said. “Shearer had a bit of everything.
“He could be robust, take the blows, he could bully centre-halves. He wasn’t the biggest but he seemed to pick the flight of the ball up faster than the centre-backs he was playing against.
“He could run in behind, not when I had him at Newcastle, but he could. For me, he’s been the best England centre forward and that’s including Harry Kane.”

As things stand, it’s hard to disagree with Souness’ verdict. Shearer scooped a Premier League title during his time at Blackburn and also remains the league’s top goalscorer.
But Kane is yet to draw the curtain on his career and could yet achieve big things with Bayern Munich. There is also time for the former Spurs man to return to England to break that long-standing record held by Shearer.
Kane has failed to lift silverware so far in his career but there’s no denying that he will go down as one of the Premier League’s best-ever strikers.
The Bayern star has also achieved more with England than Shearer managed, having captained them to a World Cup semi-final and Euros final.
Yet, Kane is yet to get over the line in the biggest moments and even if he does, the debate over him and Shearer will undoubtedly rage on.
