Graeme Souness names the two Chelsea players who will suffer against Liverpool this weekend

Liverpool face Chelsea this weekend in the first cup final of the season and Graeme Souness is a touch fearful for the Blues.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side nabbed a good point against Manchester City this weekend with a decent display, albeit Erling Haaland missed a host of big chances.

Chelsea could have scored more goals themselves though and on another day, might have left The Etihad with all three points in the locker.

However, this weekend against Liverpool is a whole new kettle of fish and speaking on , Graeme Souness has said that the midfield pair of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo could really struggle at Wembley.

Caicedo and Fernandez to struggle against Liverpool

Speaking about what he’s seen from the Chelsea duo this season and against Liverpool already, Souness admitted he is a bit fearful for the pair.

“Liverpool will win it and get it moving a lot quicker than City do. You know, they’ll win it and they’ll get it forward. Not saying Haaland doesn’t run forward but it’s a different challenge for them. I look at Chelsea right now and I think their midfielders, Fernandez and Caicedo are yet to turn up. I sat down when Chelsea went to Liverpool a few weeks ago and I though ‘I’ve not seen a lot of you two guys, let’s see what you’ve got to offer’. A really good challenge for you if you’re a player, playing in that stadium. They weren’t at it. It’s ok against City, who are a slower build up, going side to side, always in your positions not going to ground or taking yourself out of the game. Against Liverpool, they’ll get after you a lot quicker than City do, it’s a different challenge,” Souness .

Time to step up

Chelsea paid over £200m to land Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez and that sort of money should get you players who perform on the biggest stage.

This weekend is a chance for them to really show why Chelsea paid the money for them and if they can win a trophy, then Pochettino will regard this season as a success.

As Souness says here, the Chelsea midfielders need to be on their game and sharp. If they aren’t, then even a Liverpool side ravaged by injury could run amock.
