Graeme Souness insists big English clubs won’t touch Rangers man

Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness has claimed big English club’s won’t go anywhere near Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos this summer due to his ill-discipline.

The Colombian hitman has plundered 29 goals in all competitions and was recently shortlisted for the PFA Scotland’s Player of the Year award.

Despite his fantastic season in front of goal, Morelos has continually let his club down, getting himself sent off a staggering five times in 2018/19, although one of those red cards was rescinded.

The South American’s fiery personality has been his achilles heel this term, with opponents often seeking to wind him up.

Morelos has been linked with a string of clubs in recent months such as Nice, Borussia Dortmund, and most recently Real Betis.

There has been little to no interest from the Premier League though, and Souness thinks the top sides won’t bother because of his apparent immaturity.

He said, : “The last Old Firm game? He got mugged off. The big clubs in England won’t be looking at him. Elsewhere? Maybe; it’s how they [English] see the Scottish game, unfortunately.

“I wouldn’t know [about his valuation] but I’d very much doubt big teams would be interested. Maybe lower end of the Premier League but they would [also] question his discipline.”

TBR’s view

Rangers have slapped a £20 million price tag on Morelos () but Steven Gerrard will do well to get anywhere near that figure.

He’s shown himself to be a fantastic poacher in Scotland, but his temperament makes him a huge gamble.

The Premier League would be a big leap for Morelos, and with so much at stake clubs may not wish to take the risk as Souness says.
