Graeme Souness delivers verdict on future of Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris

that Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris has little future at the north London club, and reckons Jose Mourinho will look to replace the Frenchman in the transfer market.

Lloris, 32, is currently on the sidelines after suffering a horrific elbow injury in the opening minutes of Tottenham’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton. But his form up until that point had been questionable, while Paulo Gazzaniga has impressed.

Indeed, this season Lloris has conceded a whopping 19 in nine games – seven of which came against Bayern Munich. He has kept just one clean sheet in that time, though the defence are equally to blame for Spurs’ leaky defence.

Outspoken pundit Souness wrote in his column in The Times that he would be surprised if new Spurs manager Mourinho does not look to replace the 2018 World Cup winner – whether that is in January or next summer remains to be seen.

“I would be surprised if Mourinho doesn’t look at alternative arrangements in goal. I know Hugo Lloris is due back from injury in the new year but I’m not sure that he represents the best long-term bet,”

“Fixing the goalkeeping problem became a priority for Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola when they set about stamping their marks on Liverpool and City.”

TBR’s view – Selling Lloris will benefit all parties involved

Tottenham bought Lloris for a bargain £7.9million from Lyon in the summer of 2012 and after more than 300 appearances for Tottenham, he has certainly repaid Daniel Levy. The likelihood is that Spurs could still make a profit on Lloris.

For Lloris, he needs a move where he has the trust of the fans and the manager. Perhaps a side that are not so under the spotlight like Spurs – a move back to France might be the best move, where he is loved for his exploits in the national team.
