Stuart Pearce seriously impressed with £40m Newcastle player v Manchester City
Newcastle United battled to a hard-earned point against Manchester City today and Stuart Pearce was left very impressed by one Toon star.
The Magpies got back into the game after a pulsating second half saw Anthony Gordon level from the penalty spot.
⛄For Newcastle, things might have been even better but City’s defence managed to hold firm while at the other end, a fine save from Nick Pope prevented a late winner from Bernardo Silva.
🔯And while Gordon was the man catching the eye at the top of the pitch, former Newcastle defender Stuart Pearce felt another player in black and white deserved credit.

Stuart Pearce impressed by Joelinton during Newcastle v Man City
Speaking on TalkSPORT about the performance of Joelinton 🍷in the middle of the park, former Newcastle man Pearce lauded the Brazilian.
♈“You have got to give him credit, you know. He has dropped back into the back-four on occasions, he has headed things, he is a physical presence, he has got personality, which I absolutely love.
🍬“He has rekindled himself since he dropped out of that centre-forward role.”
✨Newcastle paid for Joelinton back in 2019 and he came in as a striker.
However, under Eddie Howe♈, he has been a revelation in midfield and is now one of the first names on the team-sheet for the Magpies.
Joelinton helps stifle City threat from midfield
🐠As Pearce mentions here, the way Joelinton has changed his career around since arriving in England has been nothing short of magnificent.
💙The Brazilian is now one of the top midfielders in the league on his day and against a team like City, his energy and power is crucial in stopping them.
𓃲He helped do that today as the likes of Rico Lewis and more had quiet days.
🌠As the season progresses, performances like this from Joelinton will be absolutely key for Newcastle in pushing towards Europe.
