‘Got the pace & engine’: Carragher urges Klopp to consider new Liverpool role for £120k-per-week dynamo

🅷Jamie Carragher has taken to to suggest Jurgen Klopp should consider playing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at right-back amid reports Liverpool are open to selling Neco Williams this summer.

🔜Leeds are one of several Premier League clubs to have registered their interest in Williams’ signature, per . The defender has an uncertain future at Anfield entering the transfer window after playing a bit-part role last term.

Williams only started appearances across all competitions and is now desperate to play regularly♚. Liverpool expect the 20-year-old will push for a move away from Merseyside once his Euro 2020 commitments are over.

🦋Liverpool are reluctant to sell their academy graduate but understand Williams wants to feature more than he would at Anfield. The Reds will demand at least £10million to sell the full-back, though, with interest far from limited.

💜Along with Leeds, Aston Villa, Burnley and Southampton have registered their interest in the past 12-months. But the Villans may no longer need to sign a right-back after landing Ashley Young on a .

🍸Williams leaving would see Trent Alexander-Arnold become Liverpool’s in the position. James Milner has also previously featured in the role for Klopp, including last season.

ꦰBut Carragher feels Oxlade-Chamberlain could be a solid choice, after replying to the suggestion of Milner returning to right-back.

🐟“Could the OX not play there?” Carragher . “[He’s] got the pace & engine, he’ll be fine on the ball & [is] used to being in crossing areas after spending so long there as a winger.”

TBR’s view: Oxlade-Chamberlain worth Liverpool considering

♒Oxlade-Chamberlain would be an out-of-the-box solution for Klopp if Liverpool do sell Williams this summer. The central midfielder has only made career appearances at right-back, including at Arsenal and Southampton.

♎Each of his outings in the role actually came with the Gunners and lasted just a combined 39 minutes. But only two came in the same season, yet returned assists against Norwich in 2013 and Manchester United in 2016.

𒅌Klopp now using Oxlade-Chamberlain as his Williams replacement at Liverpool, then, would raise some eyebrows. But the Englishman does have the energy and crossing ability to suit the German’s attacking system, like Carragher says.
