Arsenal loanees William Saliba and Matteo Guendouzui started for Marseille as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in Le Classique last night.

The biggest game in France took place yesterday and fans of Marseille really did believe they could get a positive result after their 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

However, it took Neymar just 12 minutes to open the scoring. Duje Caleta-Car equalised at the half-hour mark, but Kylian Mbappe restored PSG’s advantage just before the break through a penalty.

That was enough for the Parisians to pick up the win and unfortunately for Guendouzi and Saliba, they couldn’t do much in the game to change the result.

The game between PSG and Marseille, called Le Classique, is the every season. The rivalry between the two clubs is massive and both sides always give their all to pick up a win.

released their player ratings right after the game last night and Saliba and Guendouzi were awarded 5/10 and 6/10 respectively.

The outlet wrote about Saliba: “Got swarmed by PSG’s front three (Neymar, Mbappe and Lionel Messi) at times.”

On Guendouzi, it was claimed: “Played full of confidence but was a little too wasteful.”

Saliba had a goal ruled out vs PSG

Marseille did everything they possibly could to get back on level terms in the second half and Guendouzi’s good pal Saliba thought he had done it.

The young Arsenal loanee delightfully volleyed the ball past Gianluigi Donnarumma and Marseille fans were up on their feet again. Sadly, VAR ruled the goal out for offside.

Looking back at it, Saliba will feel he’s unlucky. The Frenchman’s shoulder was adjudged to be in an offside position, which is extremely harsh, but that’s how the game works these days.

Saliba and Guendouzi will not be too proud of their displays last night but it’s valuable experience for them nonetheless, especially for the centre-half who will likely be back at Arsenal this summer.
