‘Different level’: Klopp says one Liverpool player is starting to grow in confidence

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has praised Fabinho for his performance against Napoli in midweek.

The Reds midfielder’s form has been fairly indifferent for much of this season.

Klopp left Fabinho out of the starting XI in big games such as Manchester United and Arsenal away.

However, the 29-year-old returned to the starting line-up in Liverpool’s final Champions League group game.

And Fabinho delivered a solid display, looking strong in possession and stopping the opposition from stringing too many passes together.

Klopp, speaking ahead of the Premier League meeting with Tottenham Hotspur, deemed the Brazilian’s performance “a step in the right direction”.

The Liverpool manager also stressed how important it was for Fabinho to remember what his peak performance is like.

It’s good, it’s absolutely good,” Klopp told the Reds of the midfielder’s Napoli display.

“The game was a clear sign of Fabinho how we know him.

“It was a good game, he defended in all positions on a different level to the week before and so it was good.

“It felt good, it was for him very important to realise that’s possible as well. A good start in the right direction.”

It’s not been a great season so far for Liverpool, whose Premier League form has been woeful for the most part.

However, the Reds made it through to the Champions League knockouts, albeit in second place behind Napoli.

The World Cup break may well be coming at the perfect time for Liverpool, who’ll be able to regroup.

The Reds will need the likes of Fabinho back in top form if they are to challenge for silverware this season.
