‘Good sign for Tottenham’: Conte was really impressed with 24-year-old Spurs player despite defeat last night

Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte was not at all happy with the result last night, but he was impressed with Rodrigo Bentancur.
The Uruguayan made his Premier League debut after coming off the bench for the final 30 minutes of Spurs’ 3-2 defeat to Southampton at home yesterday.
Tottenham signed Bentancur from Juventus for an initial fee of £15.8 million (). That is an absolute bargain for a player of his quality, especially considering he’s only 24 years old.
After an impressive cameo against Brighton in the FA cup, Bentancur caught the eye again yesterday and Conte seems really happy to have him at Tottenham.
Conte: Bentancur signing is a good sign for Tottenham
After conceding twice in the last 15 minutes to lose the game 3-2 against Southampton at home, a frustrated Conte spoke to the media. One of the few positives he took from the game was Bentancur’s display.
Quizzed about the 24-year-old’s Premier League debut, Conte said, as per : “Rodrigo is a good player.
“I think this team need to have a player like him to match our quality and quantity.
“This is a good sign for Tottenham.”

In his 30 minutes on the pitch, Bentancur had 31 touches of the ball and completed 21 of his 25 attempted passes, thus maintaining a decent 84 per cent passing accuracy. ()
He definitely made a positive impact after coming on and everyone at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium noticed that. He will be among the favourites to start in the middle of the park on Sunday, when Spurs face Wolves.
Bentancur may not have been Conte’s first-choice for Tottenham, but it’s clear that the Italian is happy with him. The 24-year-old will only improve in the coming weeks and months, and he could become a massive player for Tottenham in a few years time.
