Gomis praises Bertrand Traore in reaction to Aston Villa loanee’s goal

Bafetimbi Gomis has praised Bertrand Traore in reaction to the Aston Villa loanee’s goal for Istanbul Basaksehir on Monday.

Traore left the Villans in the summer after a difficult time in the Premier League. The 27-year-old’s record for the club is actually not too bad.

He had 15 goal involvements in 48 games in all competitions. However, Traore was never quite able to make himself a regular starter for Villa.

So there probably were mixed feelings when Villa announced his departure in August. It probably was the kind of deal that most supporters would have been on board with had Steven Gerrard’s men actually managed to replace him before the deadline.

It is going to be difficult for the Burkina Faso international to really catch the eye while in Turkey. But he is off to a very promising start.

The former Chelsea man scored the only goal on Tuesday as Emre’s men won 1-0 against Besiktas. The result leaves the club one point off top spot with a game in hand.

Gomis praises Traore in reaction to his debut goal

It will be very interesting to see what the future holds for the attacker. Should Steven Gerrard remain in place at Villa Park upon his return, it is potentially difficult to see him featuring for the Villans again.

Unless he does something incredibly special in Turkey, it is hard to imagine Traore being able to do enough to earn another chance at Villa Park. He arrived off the back of a really impressive spell with Lyon.

Instead, Villa will probably hope that this spell encourages bids from elsewhere. They spent to sign him. And they will want to make as much of that money back as possible.

Certainly, a few more winning goals will only help their cause.
