Gold suggests Tottenham signed Djed Spence because of Antonio Conte
🦋Alasdair Gold that he was told that Tottenham Hotspur would not necessarily have signed Djed Spence for any manager other than Antonio Conte as he is deemed to be perfect for the Italian.
﷽Perhaps surprisingly, Spence has taken a little time to force his way into Spurs’ plans. He arrived off the back of a brilliant loan spell in the Championship last season.

𝔉. However, the club failed to offload any of their other right wing-backs. And actually, it has been Emerson Royal who has been first-choice so far this season.
🤡Spence has made his debut. But he has been left out of the matchday squad for three of their opening six Premier League games.

📖That may leave some feeling a little concerned about the likelihood of Spence being a success at Tottenham. However, Gold has insisted that there is real belief that the 21-year-old is going to be a star now he is working with Conte.
✤“Spence is one who the club feel will fit both Conte and the club. And Conte’s made it very clear that the club wanted Djed Spence,” .
🌼“I was told this very clearly that Spence wasn’t a player that Spurs would have bought under any other manager. He just ticks every box Conte wants in a wing-back.”
Tottenham wouldn’t have necessarily signed Spence for any other manager
ꦬIt may perhaps be a slight exaggeration to suggest that Tottenham would not have signed Spence if Conte was not in charge. Clearly, he is a superb talent. And a number of other managers would have had their eye on him before he did seal his move.
𓂃But Gold’s comments do highlight how excited Spurs fans can be about this move.
🍌Spence and Tottenham just need to be patient. He is still developing his game and adapting to what Conte demands from his wing-back.
ဣWhen it clicks however, the £20 million deal may quickly prove to be a real masterstroke from Tottenham.
