Gold shares injury update on Tottenham star, says he could miss Leeds clash

on Tottenham star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg ahead of Sunday’s clash against Leeds – and it is not an encouraging one.

Hojbjerg, 26, was on the receiving end of an incredibly nasty tackle from Mason Holgate at Goodison – during the 0-0 draw with Everton last time out.

He finished the match as Holgate received a red card. The Danish star joined up with his country – but was ruled out against Faroe Islands.

Before that match, the hope was that Hojbjerg would be okay to play against Scotland on Monday. But he has now been ruled out, once again.

Gold says he will not feature against Scotland – and the alarming fact that if Hojbjerg does miss the Leeds game, Spurs will also be without Oliver Skipp.

Skipp is suspended; Spurs could be without their starting midfielders. Gold does say it could be precautionary, with Denmark already through.

“As for Hojbjerg, it’s the injury he picked up before the break,” Gold said. “He was due to miss Denmark’s match against the Faroe Islands.

“They were hopeful he might be ok to face Scotland, However, he has now been ruled out of the second game as well.

“Hopefully it’s precautionary as Denmark have already qualified. Spurs will not want to be without him and the suspended Oliver Skipp.”

Gold on Hojbjerg: Who could Conte play in Tottenham midfield v Leeds?

So, who could play in midfield if Hojbjerg is sidelined? The likelihood is that Gio Lo Celso will sit alongside Hojbjerg, with Skipp missing on Sunday.

But if Hojbjerg is also out, then it might be a combination of Harry Winks and Lo Celso in the middle of the park. But that is hardly ideal for Spurs.

Both are somewhat lightweight, and certainly not strong in the air. They are likely to come up against Kalvin Phillips, who is very strong aerially.

Conte has little other options, though – highlighting the need for cover in the middle of the park ahead of the January transfer window.
