Gold says Tottenham will monitor Eriksen; also like Mikkel Damsgaard
Alasdair Gold that Christian Eriksen is a player Tottenham Hotspur will look at this summer, while he believes that they are also interested in Mikkel Damsgaard.
Eriksen has made an ‘‘ return to football following the horrifying scenes from Euro 2020. He has taken little time to start producing some magic at Brentford. And of course, he shone for Denmark during the international break, scoring in both of their games.
His contract with the Bees is currently set to run until the end of the season. However, that Brentford are already keen to keep him beyond this campaign.
His performances will inevitably tempt some Tottenham fans to wonder whether they could look to bring Eriksen back in the summer. And Gold has suggested that Spurs could indeed monitor his situation.
He went on to add that Eriksen may not be the only Denmark international Tottenham look at.
“Eriksen, I think Spurs will be looking at how he plays, certainly. It depends whether you’re one of these people who thinks never go back. We’ll see with Eriksen, we’ll see where it goes,” .
“It would be a different Eriksen to the one that left Tottenham. It would be someone that is obviously far more experienced and gone away and won more stuff. Conte knows him well. He’ll be a player they look at.
“I know there’s a little bit of interest in Damsgaard as well. I think there’ll be a lot of interest in him as well.”
Damsgaard move looks much riskier than Eriksen deal for Tottenham
Damsgaard was one of the stars of the show at Euro 2020. He stepped up massively after Kasper Hjulmand’s men lost their talisman in that opening game.
Of course, the highlight came when he scored that stunning free-kick against England in the semi-final of the tournament. However, he is yet to replicate anything like that form for Sampdoria.
In fact, he has spent the large part of this season on the sidelines due to injury. He has not played in the top-flight since October. And he is yet to score or provide an assist.
He is still only 21. So there is every chance that Damsgaard could still go on and enjoy an amazing career.
But of the two, Eriksen is surely the standout option for Tottenham. It is amazing just watching him play football again.
It is absolutely outrageous how good he has been.
