Unfortunately, it would appear that there is still something of a question mark over his participation in Qatar. Tottenham on Wednesday evening that Son will need surgery after suffering a fracture around his left eye.

The news came through while Gold was filming his latest video on Spurs. And while he could not offer any further insight into how long Son will be sidelined for, he did suggest that he had received some better news.

“I’ve just been told that he should be allowed to play with a mask on,” . “But it all depends on his recovery and the recovery period and how that works for him.

“So that’s a little bit of good news that I am able to add in there that he should hopefully be allowed to play with a mask. Fingers crossed that might not be too serious in that respect in terms of length of time.”

Tottenham fans will be keeping everything crossed for positive update

Gold makes a point of not knowing how long Son will be out for. But obviously, he will presumably be back sooner should he be able to wear a mask.

You would imagine that that will lift Son’s spirits. He will surely be desperate to represent his country at the World Cup. But the tournament is just around the corner.

So anything which increases his chances of being ready will be looked at. But it shall all depend on whether he is even in a position to wear a mask by the time the tournament comes around.

It is one of those situations where the mid-season break makes the pill slightly easier to swallow for Tottenham fans. But those same supporters would love to see Son shine on the world stage because they will know what it will mean to him to be involved.

Hopefully, the next update on how long he will be out for is a much more encouraging one.
