Motherwell midfielder Liam Donnelly has told that his future remains at Fir Park despite being linked with a move to Scottish champions Celtic this month, after an excellent 2019-20 campaign.
Donnelly, 23, has been in stunning form for Stephen Robinson’s side this season as Motherwell continue to surpass expectation as they sit in third. The Northern Irish star scored the only goal of the game in a crucial 1-0 win over Aberdeen on Wednesday.
earlier this week that Celtic were interested in signing Donnelly, who has proven to be a very astute signing by fellow countryman Robinson. Not only has he scored goals from midfield this season, but he is massively versatile.
Indeed, he can play out wide, in defence and in the middle of the park. Donnelly, who scored a brace against Celtic back in August during a 5-2 defeat, commented on reported interest from Scottish champions Celtic.
“Yes, I saw it but they are just rumours and I don’t think there is too much in it,” “I won’t be looking too much into it. It is flattering and it is nice when you are linked with other teams it shows you are doing alright and performing well.
“I am fully focused on Motherwell and I need to keep trying to perform.”
TBR’s view – Donnelly would be a decent signing, but would not start
Indeed, Donnelly is an excellent squad player given the Northern Irishman can play in a number of positions – and he could be the perfect replacement for Ryan Christie as a goalscoring midfielder. But he is hardly good enough to start.
Neil Lennon will have plenty in common with Donnelly given he was a Northern Irish midfielder, but surely signing Donnelly would hint at a lack of ambition.
