Glenn Hoddle explains where on-fire Tottenham duo went wrong against Chelsea
Harry Kane and Son Heung-min were not their normal, dangerous selves on Sunday evening against Chelsea and Glenn Hoddle has where the Tottenham Hotspur duo went wrong.
Spurs drew 0-0 with Chelsea and although the point saw Jose Mourinho’s men return to the top of the Premier League, the Portuguese gaffer confirmed after the match that his players were not happy with only managing a point.
Kane has been in excellent form, having a hand in 24 goals during his 16 games this season while 28-year-old Son has netted 11 times in 15 matches. However, neither player managed to have any kind of impact on Sunday, proving more effective in defence.
Ex-Tottenham player and manager Hoddle discussed their performances when asked by a supporters about Tottenham’s draw with Chelsea – and he responded by stating Son was too quiet and Kane did not get into the box enough, proving too defensive.
“Chelsea were the better team with possession but it was a hard-fought battle and tactics won out at the end of the day,” . “Son was a bit quiet for Tottenham and Kane did not get in the box enough. They were doing a job for the team defensively but it never allowed them to get that many bodies forward.”
TBR’s view – Point away at Chelsea deserves plenty of credit
Chelsea’s free-flowing attack have been excellent in recent weeks, with Frank Lampard combining the likes of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount to great effect. A clean sheet, then, should be applauded.
And so should getting a point at Stamford Bridge. Tottenham have not only kept the points tally ticking over with the display, but they have also taken two points off a side that could be rivals in the race for the Premier League title. A good draw.
