Glenn Hoddle explains it will be tough for Tottenham getting Gareth Bale up to Premier League speed
Glenn Hoddle has explained that Tottenham are facing a “big challenge” to try get new signing Gareth Bale back to match fitness for the Premier League.
The 31-year-old completed a return to former club Spurs recently on a season-long loan from Real Madrid and it’s a move that has gone down extremely well with fans.
He is a talented forward that can play anywhere across the frontline and is a world renowned name that has been transformed into a serial winner from his time in Madrid.
But the left-footer played just 20 games across all competitions last season during a difficult year in Spain and will certainly be missing match sharpness.
Hoddle is convinced that Bale is going to be someway off readiness for the physicality of the Premier League and feels it will take time for him to readjust to English football.
“He scored loads of goals for Real Madrid, but some of them would have been against lesser opposition. But he will need to be at his fittest and best to shine week-in, week-out in the Premier League,”
“That’s why the Spurs medical team face such a big challenge to get him up for full speed and playing at his best.”

TBR’s View:
Bale, aged 31, is unlikely to be like the memorable young sensation he previously was at Spurs, who was a player that was almost unstoppable when in full flow running at defenders.
But the Wales international is a versatile attacker that still has his pace, strength and quality on the ball, so it’s about Jose Mourinho’s side getting the very best out of him.
It looks like he could be best suited to operating off the right wing cutting onto his favoured foot, which means there is the prospect of a mouthwatering forward line of him next to Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.
