Glen Johnson suggests West Ham should move for Diego Costa
Ex-West Ham defender Glen Johnson has suggested his former club consider a move for Atletico Madrid centre-forward Diego Costa this summer.
The Hammers have waved goodbye to Marko Arnautovic this summer and Javier Hernandez now looks like the only recognised striker at the London Stadium.
Johnson has suggested that Spaniard Costa would be a great target for the London club to consider.
The 30-year-old previously enjoyed an excellent spell in the English capital, where he won two Premier League titles with Chelsea.
“I could see it happening at West Ham (Costa making a return to the Premier League),”
“The club have shown over years if they want someone then they will go get them and they could pay Diego the wages that no doubt he would demand.
“I reckon he’d strive being a big fish in a smaller pond. I would love to see him back and I wold love to see him play for West Ham.”
The reports that Costa is likely to exit Atletico this summer after a breakdown int he relationship with the Spanish club and Everton have been credited with interest.
TBR’s View:
Costa bullied Premier League defences during his spell in England and he is a striker that is strong in so many departments.
He’s got the pace and power to play the lone role in attack, where he’s proven himself to be capable at the highest level with Chelsea and Atletico.
The centre-forward does have a bad reputation for his mean streak, but he’s the type of maverick that would surely win the hearts of West Ham fans if he was lining up for them.
Johnson has of course posed a hypothetical situation, but it may be worth the Hammer seriously considering a raid for him if he is to leave Atletico.
