Gini Wijnaldum responds to questions on potentially signing Liverpool contract
Gini Wijnaldum has given a feisty response when asked about a potential new Liverpool contract, after the Dutchman entered the final year of his current deal – telling reporters to ask his club instead.
Wijnaldum, 30, has remained a crucial part of Liverpool’s side this season despite his current contract situation. He has started and finished seven of Liverpool’s eight Premier League games, being used as a sub against Everton.
The Netherlands international was linked with a move to Barcelona in the summer following the appointment of Dutch legend Ronald Koeman as Barca boss. Wijnaldum’s future remains in doubt at Anfield.
Indeed, the ex-Newcastle man can sign a pre-contract agreement in January with a non-English side if his contract situation remains. Asked about a new deal, Wijnaldum gave a sharp response in front of the media.
“I can’t say anything about that,” Wijnaldum told . “Just ask Liverpool. Don’t they answer? I cannot say anything about it, including whether or not there is talk of a new contract between me and Liverpool. Sorry.”

TBR’s view – Does Wijnaldum have a future at Liverpool?
Turning 30 on Wednesday, Wijnaldum has now entered that stage in his career. If Liverpool are to extend his current deal, it is likely to be the last contract he gets before he begins to wind down.
There are no signs of lacking in pace or fitness under Jurgen Klopp. Wijnaldum remains just as important to Liverpool as he did when he arrived for £25million () from Newcastle in the summer of 2016.
So, does he have a future at Liverpool? Right now, he should do.
