‘Getting better and better’: Some Southampton fans hail ‘under the radar’ hero’s FA Cup display today

A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to praise Stuart Armstrong for his superb performance in today’s FA Cup quarter-final victory.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Saints ran out 3-0 winners over south coast neighbours Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

Having seen an earlier goal ruled out for offside, Southampton finally took broke the deadlock in the 37th minute.

Nathan Redmond was the architect as he embarked on a surging run before slipping the ball through to Moussa Djenepo, who duly fired into the far corner of the net.

The 27-year-old then weighed in with two goals of his own, a stunning solo effort in first-half injury time and an easy strike on the rebound just before the hour mark.

Redmond’s second came about after Armstrong had struck the post with a fierce effort from just outside the box.

Woodwork aside, the 28-year-old was superb throughout the game, showing constant energy and charging around the pitch even in the latter stages of the game.

And while Redmond was rightly named man of the match, plenty of Saints fans were eager to praise a player whose heroics have gone a little more under the radar.
