Getting £8m for outcast Oxford would be impressive business for West Ham
There is interest from two clubs in young West Ham United outcast Reece Oxford,
They that Englishman is wanted by Nottingham Forest – who have just appointed Martin O’Neill as their new manager – and German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt before the window slams shut on Thursday night.
Oxford’s star has fallen rapidly in recent years and he looks to have no future at the London Stadium; but that has not stopped the Hammers commanding a decent fee.
Frankfurt are readying an £8m bid – which is not a lot for a young English talent but is a lot for someone who has not played a lot of football and doesn’t appear to have much of a future at his current club.
The presence of Forest in the chase could well start a bidding war as the Daily Mirror that they are also happy to pay the £8m to land Oxford.
Desperation tends to set in during the latter stages of the transfer window, and if the Hammers can engineer a bidding war, they could profit handsomely for a player who has not contributed much on the pitch for them at all in recent times.
