‘Get as much as we can’: Jose Enrique urges Liverpool to sell £80k-a-week player

Jose Enrique has urged Liverpool to sell Xherdan Shaqiri during this summer’s transfer window.

Shaqiri, who earns , is currently shining at Euro 2020 with Switzerland. He’s scored two goals and made one assist in three group stage matches.

However, it’s a different story for him at club level during the 2020/21 season.

The left-footed attacker made just 22 appearances throughout the entire campaign for the Reds, scoring once and making four assists.

Shaqiri is versatile enough to play as a winger or in central attacking positions, but he can’t break into Jurgen Klopp’s best team.

Enrique suggests that Shaqiri leaving Liverpool could be best for all parties involved.

“[Shaqiri] is a great player with great talents, but he gets injuries too often, so for our way of play, I believe it’s better to get as much as we can and get another player,” Enrique said via .

He goes from a talisman with his country to a squad player with his club.

There is no doubt that on his day he’s got the individual ability to be part of the Liverpool starting XI. But, he’s surrounded by club teammates that are world class more regularly than not.

Shaqiri cost the Merseyside club three years ago, so they should try get a tidy profit for him. He’s currently playing at the Euros like he’s an individual with a point to prove.

The claims Liverpool expect interest in him this summer. He still has two years remaining on his contract at Anfield.
