Steven Gerrard was able to snare a hugely talented young centre-half in Joe Worrall this summer and after allowing the Englishman a bedding in period, has decided to place him at the heart of the Rangers defence alongside Conor Goldson.
That meant relegating Nikola Katic to the bench, despite the towering Croatian impressing in the opening months of his Rangers career.
That Worrall’s introduction to the side has come at the same time as Rangers biggest wobble of the season will not go unnoticed in some quarters.
But the simple fact is that Worrall’s potential ability is far higher than Katic’s. The loanee was being talked about as a Premier League central defender at times last season, but just lost his way when Aitor Karanka failed to show a great deal of faith in him.

The recent slump in form – which has actually only seen Rangers drop two points in the league – should not deter Gerrard from persisting with Worrall.
The defender has such quality that Gerrard will have a gem on his hands if he can regain full form and fitness; his ceiling is simply higher than Katic’s.
It may be tough while results aren’t going Rangers’ way, but Gerrard must not panic where Worrall is concerned…
