Gerrard said 31-year-old was ‘the best’ six years ago, now he reportedly wants to sign him for Villa
Italian outlet Sport Mediaset claim that Aston Villa have joined the race to sign Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey this month.
The Welshman, who left Arsenal as a free agent in 2019, has struggled in Turin. Injuries have been cruel on him but even when he has been fit, other players have been preferred over him.
That has made him decide that he wants to leave the club this month. Newcastle United and Everton have been linked with a move for him, but Aston Villa, now under Steven Gerrard, are said to be keen as well.
The Villa boss, if his comments from six years ago are anything to go by, is a huge fan of Ramsey.

Speaking about the Welshman in December 2015, Gerrard said, as per : “I don’t think he’ll be happy himself playing out wide because he hasn’t got the legs – his qualities are all in the middle.
“For me, when he’s in that form, he’s the best attacking midfielder in the Premier League.
“You should play your best players where they want to be and I’m sure that’d be in the middle.”
Should Villa sign Ramsey?
Gerrard definitely knows a thing or two about talented midfielders and if he believes that Ramsey is the right player for his side, Aston Villa fans should trust him.
However, injury struggles make Ramsey a very risky signing. We all know that the Welshman is among the best in the country when he’s fit, but since his move to Juventus two-and-a-half years ago, he has missed 32 games due to fitness issues, which is a very worrying record.
If Villa’s medical department give Ramsey the green light, signing him would be a no-brainer for Gerrard and co. He knows the Premier League very well, he can play anywhere across central midfield and he will add goals from the middle of the park. Under Gerrard, he could become better, even though he’s 31 already.
It will be interesting to see if this move materialises in the coming days.
