Double deal for Gelson Martins and William Carvalho would transform Everton next season

Everton have reportedly been handed a huge boost in pursuit of two of their primary targets this summer, as William Carvalho and Gelson Martins have asked to terminate their contracts with Portuguese giants Sporting,

A training ground incident involving Sporting fans last month has allegedly convinced both stars to leave, with them having sent letters of termination to the club, with a view to making swift transfers in the coming weeks.

Everton manager Marco Silva is said to be monitoring the contract situations of both players, while also courting highly-rated striker Bas Dost, , and he now has a brief window to do some serious business. Business that could transform his current Everton side.

Silva has been assigned the tricky task of bringing attacking and progressive football back to Goodison Park this term, after fans bemoaned the pragmatic style of former boss Sam Allardyce, and the addition of Martins would instantly go a long way to achieving this.

The 23-year-old is one of the finest attacking talents in world football these days, using his blend of frightening acceleration and quick feet to dazzle defenders – bagging an impressive 13 goals and 13 assists in his 52 appearances for the club – and he would undoubtedly bolster a struggling Everton attack.

Carvalho would instantly add quality to the midfield area, as his intelligent use of possession and positional nous is unmatched by any other defensive midfielders at the club, and he would bring an element of control to the Toffees that was lacking last term.

There is no doubting that Silva will face Premier League competition for both, with the possibility of bargain deals or free transfers for their services. Arsenal in particular are keen to bring Martins to the Emirates this summer, according to Italian outlet

If owner Farhad Moshiri is serious about bringing European football back to Goodison Park in the next few years, he must back the new manager in pursuits for both players. If they were to secure the double deal, Everton would be an entirely different animal next season.
