Gattuso placed on pre-alert as Ashley eyes Bruce replacement

Gattuso is on alert as Newcastle may come calling.

The Italian manager is out of a job having walked away from the Fiorentina job over the summer.

He was briefly linked with a move to Tottenham, although the Spurs fans quickly showed their discontent and the rumours were shut down ().

Now, though, it’s being reported by that Mike Ashley could look to Gennaro Gattuso to replace Steve Bruce.

Bruce is not at all a popular figure at St. James’ Park.

Many fans are desperate to see him go, but having a competent replacement to come in is key.

Gattuso could provide just that.

The former Milan player and manager has had most of managerial experience in Italy.

Fleeting spells at Sion and Crete are Gattuso’s only experiences outside of Italy.

However, he has impressed in his homeland and won the Coppa Italia with Italy in 2020, ending their six year wait for silverware.

Newcastle fans have long called for change in the Northeast.

They want to see wholesale changes from top to bottom.

Whilst it doesn’t look like Ashley is going anywhere just yet, at least in removing Bruce they can have some joy.

The Magpies are winless so far this season.

The Geordies, after six league games and a Carabao Cup clash, have suffered three draws and four defeats.

That simply isn’t good enough and despite a good performance against Watford, the fans have lost all patience.

At least in Gattuso the fans could laud a big name from European football.

In Italy he’s mainly used a 4-2-3-1 system, a much more attacking way of playing than Bruce’s trademark 5-4-1.

The fans would love to see some more attacking football and if Gattuso offers to bring it then they’ll be behind the 43-year-old.
