Gary Rowett lauds Calum Chambers’s display in Arsenal’s 5-0 win

Gary Rowett suggested during that Calum Chambers had been outstanding in Arsenal’s Carabao Cup win against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.

Unai Emery’s men are into the fourth round after an emphatic victory against the Championship side. Gabriel Martinelli scored twice, while Rob Holding, Joe Willock and Reiss Nelson also found the back of the net in the 5-0 win.

He may not have scored but Chambers continues to make a big impact following his return from a loan spell last season. The defender played in both full-back roles and provided three assists.

And it was while describing Arsenal’s fourth goal that Rowett explained just how impressed he had been with Chambers’s performance.

“He’s been unbelievable actually tonight,” . “He’s been really, really good. Full credit to him. It’s a great run, great overlap, puts a left foot cross in the box. Reiss Nelson arrives, great timing.”

Chambers has made a fantastic comeback this season. The 24-year-old has made four appearances in all competitions, and Arsenal have only conceded one goal while he has been on the pitch.

He also scored the Gunners’ second equaliser against Aston Villa on Sunday. It does appear that he is finally ready to really vindicate Arsenal’s decision to spend £16 million on him back in 2014 (via ).

And with Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney coming into the fold after being injured at the start of the season, Arsenal fans could be forgiven for feeling a lot more optimistic about their defensive options than they were a short time ago.
