Gary O’Neil expects Manuel Pellegrini exit if West Ham lose next game

Ex-West Ham midfielder Gary O’Neil insists that his former side are definitely in a relegation fight this season in the Premier League.

The Hammers suffered a crushing 3-1 home defeat against Arsenal on Monday night in the Premier League and it leaves them hoovering just about the drop zone in the table.

Manuel Pellegrini’s team are 16th in the league standings at present and only a point above 18th-placed Southampton.

West Ham have lost five of their previous six league matches and they travel to St Mary’s on Saturday evening to face Southampton in a massive showdown.

O’Neil believes that Pellegrini will get the weekend’s fixture against the Saints, but can see him exiting the London Stadium if they get a negative result.

“They are definitely in a relegation scrap. We’ve all been involved in them and sometimes when you get to this stage it’s maybe accepting the fact that you are and changing the way you go about things and becoming a little bit more difficult to beat,”

“I think Pellegrini will get the weekend [against Southampton] and if it doesn’t go his way I can see that being the end.”

TBR’s View:

West Ham on paper have a number of talented individuals in their squad, which is why it’s staggering that they find themselves languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Pellegrini certainly appears to be in a tough position and they lost a game against a struggling Arsenal team on Monday.

A defeat away to Southampton would surely make it very difficult for Pellegrini to bounce back and there are plenty of teams in the division that have found immediate success already this season to sacking a manager.
