Gary Neville thinks West Ham are now suffering with the same problem Tottenham had

Gary Neville now thinks West Ham United are beginning to suffer from the same issue that Tottenham Hotspur used to endure.

Despite all of the criticism and scrutiny David Moyes has been subject to this season, West Ham could still achieve a lot.

The Hammers are in a good spot to qualify for European football through their league position next year, given they are currently seventh with 29 games played.

And although Bayer Leverkusen will be incredibly tough competition to overcome, West Ham have reason to believe that they can make history in Europe as well once again.

It is sometimes a struggle to understand why it all feels so ‘doom and gloom’ in east London given the position described above, but that is a situation that goes much deeper than the club’s league standing for example.

Many West Ham fans aren’t happy with what they perceive as ‘negative’ or simply ‘boring’ football being played at the London Stadium, despite what it may achieve.

And that’s a situation that Gary Neville has been comparing to Tottenham’s plight in recent years.

Gary Neville thinks West Ham fans have become as fed up as Tottenham’s once were

Speaking on today, Neville thought West Ham fans may have reached a similar point of no return as Tottenham did before Ange Postecoglou arrived.

He explained: “We said this a few weeks ago about West Ham.

“They are almost caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, that they have a manager who is so consistent, never lands them in trouble, gets them into the top half and the prize money in the Premier League is huge, they are competing for trophies and are in the latter stages of European competition but there are fans who aren’t happy because of the style of play.

“It’s a bit like at Spurs, when I was watching Spurs a few seasons ago, and you had the managers who were there and I said on Sky that Spurs fans are never going to be happy if the style of play is like this, even if they are challenging for trophies and I think West Ham have got to that point.”

West Ham fans aren’t being ungrateful with David Moyes

Whilst this all feels so unfair on David Moyes, and some will accuse West Ham fans of being ‘ungrateful’ and such, they’re ultimately just craving their team to ooze the aura of a big club.

The classic ‘be careful what you wish for’ comments will be thrown about, but just look at Spurs now, a club on a clear upwards trajectory.

Neville is right to compare West Ham’s situation to Tottenham in the past.

Although circumstances under Moyes aren’t as toxic as it had nce become under Antonio Conte at Spurs, West Ham fans are more than within their own right to ask for change.

There will still be those happy with Moyes’ work and vision, but they now seem to be in the minority.

All that being said, Rob Green recently admitted he’s completely changed his mind about one West Ham player.
