Gary Neville picks out three Liverpool players who he thought really ‘struggled’ against Arsenal

Liverpool drew against Arsenal at the weekend as Mohamed Salah scored a dramatic late equaliser to earn the Reds a point at the Emirates.

Liverpool picked up a good point away from home, but this was far from an easy game for the Merseyside club.

Indeed, Arne Slot’s side trailed twice during this match, and there were a number of players who weren’t at their best for periods of this game.

Andy Robertson had a tough time against Bukayo Saka on Sunday, while according to Gary Neville, speaking on his podcast, both Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo also struggled down that left flank.

Gary Neville says three Liverpool players struggled

Neville says that Andy Robertson, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo all struggled against Arsenal.

Interestingly, all three of these players were playing on the left hand side for Liverpool, and while they struggled, it’s a testament to how well Arsenal’s right flank operated.

“I think Diaz and Gakpo are probably the ones that have struggled most in the game in open play. I think Partey can probably be really happy with his performance. I think Andy Robertson had his moments against Saka where he really struggled, obviously, the first goal being the ultimate one.” Neville said.

Andy Robertson is having a tough season

Gakpo and Diaz weren’t at their best against Arsenal, but that can be chalked up to being something of a one-off.

Diaz and Gakpo have both been very good at times this season. However, sadly, the same can’t be said of Andy Robertson.

Robertson was criticised for his performance against Chelsea last week, and he has been off his best form for a little while now.

Liverpool’s defence has been brilliant this term, conceding just five league goals so far, but a number of those five goals have come through Robertson’s mistakes or poor positioning.

The Scottish full-back needs to get back to his best soon, because Kostas Tsimikas is knocking on the door for a starting spot in the Liverpool XI after a few solid performances when called upon.

Rayan Ait-Nouri has recently been linked to Liverpool, and a new left-back could be just what the doctor ordered by the time the transfer window rolls around.
