Gary Neville left feeling ‘uncomfortable’ after hearing what David Sullivan did to David Moyes at West Ham

Although Julen Lopetegui’s job is under serious pressure right now, West Ham United may not necessarily regret the fact that they parted ways with David Moyes in the summer.

If anything, West Ham may eventually feel that they just chose the wrong replacement – that’s if Lopetegui isn’t able to turn things around.

West Ham could sack Lopetegui if he loses to Everton this weekend – no one at the club is satisfied with results nor the club’s position in the league table since the Spaniard came in.

Towards the end of his tenure, Moyes’ football was deemed uninspiring in east London, even if it often yielded satisfactory results.

David Sullivan ultimately decided to roll the dice, a decision that isn’t paying dividends just yet.

David Sullivan withdrew his contract offer to David Moyes once results worsened

That being said, when speaking on the ‘Stick to Football’ podcast, Moyes shared a surprising insight into what happened with a retracted contract offer during his last season at the club.

Moyes was speaking alongside Gary Neville, and confessed that Sullivan took away his offer once results swiftly took a turn for the worse.

Moyes said: “It happened when we beat Arsenal at the Emirates on December 28th, I think it was.

“That day the club offered me a new contract. Then we went on a three game run where we lost three in a row, we lost to Man United, another game, and then Forest.

“I hadn’t signed a contract as I wasn’t sure if I should stay. I wasn’t quite sure but the contract wasn’t a great contract. The biggest part of it was that he withdrew the contract.

“He [David Sullivan] said that he was taking the contract away, just on the back of the results. We said let’s wait and make a decision at the end of the season.”

Neville replied: “I don’t think you can do that. I feel uncomfortable. If you offer someone a contract it is a bond.”

Moyes did then add shortly after that he had no lingering animosity over the situation.

Tim Steidten also under serious pressure at West Ham

Whilst some West Ham fans may be surprised by that contract admission, they might be caught even more off guard by news that Tim Steidten is also under pressure at the club now too.

Moyes and Steidten appeared to endure a difficult relationship initially at the London Stadium, something they were seemingly able to then remedy.

But regardless of who’s managing the side alongside Steidten, his signings simply haven’t been good enough of late.

None of West Ham’s big summer signings have set the world alight so far, and Steidten was said to have pushed hard to sign the likes of Niclas Fullkrug and Luis Guilherme.

There’s still time for this current set up to succeed and turn things around, but some West Ham fans may be wondering if letting go of Moyes was actually worth it after all.
