Gary Neville claims one Tottenham Hotspur player is definitely ‘world-class’

Gary Neville has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-Min is definitely a ‘world-class’ player.

Speaking on his after Tottenham thrashed Newcastle 4-1 on Sunday, the pundit was full of praise for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

The Aussie boss will be delighted after his side ended a torrid run of five games without a win in the league and the performance was particularly encouraging.

Tottenham had surrendered 1-0 leads in their last five games in the Premier League but they managed to press home their advantage yesterday.

Goals from Destiny Udogie, Richarlison and Son Heung-Min handed Spurs a deserved win.

But Son was undoubtedly the standout performer on the day as he grabbed two assists before winning and slotting away a penalty late in the game.

And after watching Son in action at Spurs yesterday, Gary Neville has stated that he believes the South Korean is among the world’s best players.

Neville says Son is ‘world-class’

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, the Manchester United legend admitted he has loved watching Tottenham so far this season.

Neville praised Postecoglou for transforming them into an exciting, attacking side. But he also singled out Son for praise.

“I’ve been impressed with them all season,” he said. “Obviously, we did the game last weekend at the Etihad and they were very good there.

“They could have been turned over in the first half, Erling Haaland missed those couple of chances. But what you can’t deny is the football.

“It sounds really simple but football fans love watching exciting football and they’ll forgive a lot if you are watching football that’s breathtaking. It’s such a brilliant way of playing.

“I used to love Pochettino’s time here because his football was high-energy, front-foot, pressing.

“The technical level we’re watching out there in this Spurs team is fantastic and they’re not the best players in the world by the way. In fact, they’ve lost one of their world-class players [Harry Kane] because Son is another one.

“At the start of the season, if you’d have said to me that Ange Postecoglou would get a team playing like this, I would have said ‘no chance’.

“Even if he’s a great coach, to come and get them doing what they’re doing… I love doing their games.

“Every time you get your rota at the end of the month, if I see Tottenham there I think ‘yeah, I’m having that’ because you know it’s going to be a really good game. That’s what we all want.”

Son has certainly proven himself to be a world-class operator over the years for Spurs and he put in a big performance yesterday.

The 31-year-old beat his former teammate Kieran Trippier on two occasions to set up Destiny Udogie and Richarlison.

He also stepped up to take Tottenham’s first penalty since Harry Kane’s departure and calmly slotted it home.

The Spurs skipper made history on Sunday as he now leads the way in terms of assists for Tottenham in the Premier League era

It was a surprise to see Son move out wide last night and Richarlison used as a striker once again. But it turned out to be a stroke of genius from Postecoglou as Son starred and Richarlison bagged a much-needed brace.
